The ProQOL is the most commonly used measure of the negative and positive affects of helping others who experience suffering and trauma and is available in more than 20 languages. The ProQOL has sub-scales for compassion satisfaction, burnout and compassion fatigue and is time-efficient. It has been in use since 1995 and is available for free.
The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) authored by Sheldon Cohen, is a 10 item measure that takes only 5 to 10 minutes at most. It the most widely used psychological instrument for measuring the perception of stress. It is a measure of the degree to which situations in one’s life are appraised as stressful.
